BIRMINGHAM – Led by Learfield's Blazer Sports Properties, UAB Athletics and Cumulus Radio have agreed to a three-year extension to keep JOX Radio as the home of Blazers through the 2025-26 academic year.
The extension means WJOX 94.5 FM will continue to be the home for UAB Football, while WJQX 100.5 FM is where fans can listen to UAB Basketball throughout the season.
Additionally, 100.5 FM will continue to air both the football and basketball coaches shows featuring Trent Dilfer, Andy Kennedy and Randy Norton.
"We are thrilled to extend our partnership with UAB Athletics and Blazer Sports Properties," VP/Market Manager for Cumulus Media Birmingham James Robinson stated. The Blazers are Birmingham's hometown team, and we are proud to broadcast them on our airwaves. It's a great partnership and we look forward to many exciting Blazer Football and Blazer Men's Basketball games as well as the Coaches shows with Trent Dilfer, Andy Kennedy and Randy Norton.
The multi-year extension with Cumulus was overseen by Learfield and its locally based Blazer Sports Properties team as part of the overall rights relationship.
"Cumulus has been a great partner for many years and the relationship with Blazers Athletics continues to get stronger," Blazer Sports Properties General Manager Greg Wheeler said. "WJOX 94.5 FM and JOX2 100.5 FM are the best places to tune for sports programming in this market and it's a perfect fit for our broadcasts."
UAB Athletics transitions into the American Athletic Conference this summer with unprecedented momentum. Under first year head coach Trent Dilfer, the Blazer Football team was won 50 games since 2017 and has captured back-to-back bowl games for the first time in school history. UAB Men's Basketball is coming off a program record 29 wins and reached the NIT Championship game this past season.
The UAB Department of Athletics officially joins the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2023.
