BIRMINGHAM – The UAB football team was back on the field Wednesday morning for its second practice of spring ball at the Football Operations Center.

- Wide receivers Fred Farrier II, T.J. Jones and Tejhaun Palmer had standout practices as each made multiple impressive catches, including a one-handed grab from Palmer on the sideline. These three looked explosive and should form a dynamic trio in 2023. Transfers Malachi Holt-Bennett and Dazalin Worsham were also making plays, as was redshirt freshman Iverson Hooks.
- Jackson Bratton returns with the most playing experience at linebackers for the Blazers after 31 tackles last season. It is a big spring for this position group with a lot of playing time up for grabs. Along with Bratton, returners Tamarious Brown, Reise Collier, Charlie Goode, Deshaun Oliver Jr. and Charles Daniels III are all in the mix, as are newcomers James Smyre (Marshall transfer) and true freshman and early enrollee Everett Roussaw Jr.
- Led by Jermaine Brown Jr., the depth at running back looks strong so far this spring. A.J. Gates, Lee Witherspoon, Taven Curry and Lee Beebe have provided quality reps, while senior grad transfer Demetrius Battle has looked like a wrecking ball out there. At 6-foot-0, 245 pounds, Battle has shown the ability to run with speed and power and has provided a spark in the backfield.
