MIAMI, Fla. – UAB (6-16, 1-4 C-USA) fell to FIU (13-11, 2-3 C-USA) by a score of 13-5 on Saturday, March 25. The Blazers put up nine hits with three of those hits from Gavin Lewis Jr. who collected a career high game.

UAB scored two runs in the second and third innings and one in the seventh, but FIU scored in four straight innings to take the 13-5 lead. Six of the eight batters for the Blazers collected hits on the day including a multi-hit game from Lewis Jr. who went 3-for-4. Lewis Jr. recorded career highs in hits (3), doubles (2) and RBIs (3) Both of his doubles brought in UAB baserunners: Henry Hunter, Darryl Buggs and Ben Abernathy. John Marc Mullins hit an RBI double in the second for his only hit on the day. Brayton Brown, Logan Braunschweig – who collected his first career triple – Buggs, Abernathy and Hunter also collected single hits.

Blayze Berry (1-2) who started on the mound for UAB received the loss after he threw five and one thirds of an inning and allowed seven runs – six earned – on 10 hits. Three pitchers followed including Christian Clack, Carson Knight and Leo Harris. Between the three, they allowed six runs on four hits.

The final game between UAB and FIU is scheduled for Sunday, March 26. First pitch is set for 11 A.M. CST on CUSA.tv. Both teams will look to earn a first conference series win of the season.
