Softball Dominates MTSU in Sunday Afternoon Win

MURFREESBORO – UAB Softball (12-15, 2-4 C-USA) concluded the series finale against MTSU with a 10-7 win over the Blue Raiders. The Blazers finished the afternoon with 14 hits, with 7 RBIs.
The Blazers completed the weekend to halt the two-game losing streak as they enter week three of conference play.

Entering the first inning, the Blazers were first to strike with an RBI double from Bella Wiggins. Immediately after Wiggins, Sierra Frazier gave Wiggins the go-ahead to proceed to third before scoring on a passed ball to give the Blazers a 2-0. The Blue Raiders responded with an RBI to close the scoring margin to one.
The Blazers entered the second inning with an opportunity to score. Hannah Miles sent a flyball out to give Olivia Valbak a run to increase the lead to 3-1. MTSU had a 2RBI single to tie the score at three.
UAB and MTSU went cold in the third, before entering the fourth on a scoring rally in favor of the Blazers. Lauren Brock reached first on a fielding error from the Blue Raiders' third baseman and sent a runner across home plate. The Blazers capitalized on two errors to increase the lead to 5-3. Makenzie Droddy then tallied a single to left center, sending Frazier and Brock across home.
MTSU responded with a run at the bottom of the fourth, but the Green and Gold added three more runs for good measure to increase the score to 10 runs. The Blazers allowed only three more runs, holding their lead for the next inning-and-a-half to finish the game with a 10-7 win over the Blue Raiders.

The Blazers finished with double-digit hits on the day, with 14. Lindsey Smith led the team in hits with three.

Brock, Wiggins, and Droddy finished the day with two RBIs each.

Sarah Cespedes struck out five batters in the circle over six innings.

The Blazers return to action on Wednesday, March 22 in Tuscaloosa taking on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.
