BIRMINGHAM – The American Athletic Conference has revealed UAB's inaugural football schedule which is highlighted by playing three reigning conference champions, the two-time defending national champion and six home games, including the Battle for the Bones returning to Birmingham on Oct. 21 vs. Memphis.
The Blazers' home slate features non-conference games against North Carolina A&T on Thursday, Aug. 31 and Louisiana on Saturday, Sept. 16, and conference opponents USF (Oct. 7), Memphis (Oct. 21), Florida Atlantic (Nov. 4) and Temple (Nov. 18).
UAB's away contests include Georgia Southern (Sept. 9), Georgia (Sept. 23), Tulane (Sept. 30), UTSA (Oct. 14), Navy (Nov. 11) and North Texas (Nov. 24 or 25).
Each of the 14 teams in The American will play eight conference games in 2023. The top two teams in the final single-division regular season standings will meet Dec. 2 in the ninth American Athletic Conference Football Championship. A minimum of 40 conference-controlled regular season games will be on ESPN's linear platforms, including at least 20 games on either ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
UAB will face the reigning conference champions from the SEC (Georgia), American (Tulane) and Conference USA (UTSA). Georgia has won back-to-back national championships, while Tulane defeated USC in last year's Cotton Bowl and finished the season ranked No. 9 nationally.
The Battle for the Bones between UAB and Memphis returns to Birmingham on Oct. 21 at Protective Stadium. UAB leads the all-time series over its rival 10-5 and these two teams will meet annually for at least the next four years.
