UAB Notches Largest Win of Season with 79-39 Victory over Wagner

PHILADELPHIA – A dominant second quarter propelled the UAB women's basketball team to its largest victory this season with a 40-point win (79-39) over Wagner on Wednesday at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia.
Sophomore guard Mia Moore notched her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while adding a season-high five assists. Moore played 22 minutes and was 7-of-9 from the floor.
Moore led four players in double figures, and all 10 Blazers who saw action found the scoring column. Jade Weathersby had 14 points in the win and Kylee Schneringer matched her season high with 11. Molly Moffitt also scored 11 for her second double-figure scoring effort of the season.
Sophomore point guard Denim DeShields added seven points and in the process went over 500 career points. In 42 career games, DeShields is averaging 12.0 points per game.
The Blazers led 17-10 after the first quarter but then outscored the Seahawks 26-6 in the second for a 43-16 halftime advantage. The Blazers shot 58 percent in the quarter to help gain 27-point lead at the break.
UAB then scored the first 12 points of the third quarter and eventually outscored Wagner 24-7 in the frame and led by 44 (67-23) entering the fourth.
The win improved UAB to 9-2 overall and now sets up a showdown with Saint Joseph's on Thursday, who is 10-1 on the season. Tip is set for 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT and can be seen by clicking here.
