Men's Basketball Runs Past Montevallo

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball cruised to a 92-56 win over Montevallo at Bartow Arena on Sunday afternoon. Javian Davis scored a career high 22 points while Eric Gaines added eight points, 10 assists and seven steals.
The Blazers took control late in the first half, holding the Falcons to only one point over the last 6:56 for a 19-1 run. Eric Gaines sparked the Blazers' offense by making things happen on the defensive end. Gaines had six steals in the first half that led directly to 11 points for UAB.
Ortiz capped the half with a steal and layup to put the Blazers on top 44-28 at the half. UAB then broke the game open on a 14-4 run to open the second half that featured eight points from Javian Davis.
UAB built its lead to as many as 40 points in the second half as 12 different players made appearances. The Blazers scored 56 of their points in the paint and had 38 points off turnovers in the 92-56 win.

NOTES
- Andy Kennedy picked up his 350th win as a head coach. He is one of 48 active coaches to reach 350 wins as a Division I head coach.
- Javian Davis scored a career high 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting.
- Eric Gaines reached 10 assists for the third time in his career while adding eight points and setting a career mark with seven steals.
- Gaines' seven steals are tied for fifth in UAB history for a single game.
- Yaxel Lendeborg finished in double figures for the third straight game. He is averaging 14.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game over that stretch.
- Daniel Ortiz scored 16 points to surpass 1,000 points in his collegiate career. He also added four rebounds and four steals in the contest.
- Will Shaver and KJ Satterfield each recorded their first collegiate field goals in the win.
