Blazer Track & Field Opens 2023 Indoor Season at BSC Icebreaker

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track and Field enters the 2023-24 season at the 2023 BSC Icebreaker on Dec. 1, 2023 at the Birmingham Crossplex. The meet will begin at 8:30 am.
The last time the Blazers competed at the BSC Icebreaker, the Green and Gold finished with 13 PRs and seven season-opening bests. Notable performances from returners such as Nia Hill and Laney Bishop (nee Kronz) came out of the Dec. 2, 2022 meet.
The Blazers welcome numerous new faces to compete in Friday's meet this year. Freshman Gabby Washington joined the ranks of the Green and Gold with notable performances in their high school circuit.
Washington, who appeared at the 2023 Nike Indoor Nationals, will make her collegiate debut at the Icebreaker. In addition to Washington, Janessa Duren joins the Blazers as a hurdler, following her elder sister Kat.
In field events, the Blazers welcome newcomers Loren Johnson and Mikyala Williams to the fold for jumps.
UAB returns athletes like Hill, Bishop, and Megan Hamilton Strong, who finished with a personal best of 9.28 in the 60m Hurdles at the 2023 Indoor C-USA Championships. In addition to Hamilton Strong, fellow multis athlete Kelsey Pacha will compete at the BSC Icebreaker in year two of her Blazer Career.
