UAB Men’s Basketball Downs Morehouse in Exhibition

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball defeated Morehouse College on Monday night at Bartow Arena by a score of 88-70. Five Blazers finished in double figures and eight players scored at least seven points.

Despite some first half struggles after taking an early 24-12 lead, UAB was able to pull away in the second half. Morehouse was able to cut the Blazers' lead to just four at the break.

Yaxel Lendeborg finished with a double-double in his first game at Bartow Arena with 11 points and 12 rebounds while scoring all of his points in the second half.

The contest was highlighted by an athletic steal and dunk from Eric Gaines in the second half. He reached up with one hand to steal the ball at midcourt and threw down a windmill on the other end.

The Blazers shot 9-for-21 from beyond the arc with Barry Dunning Jr., Eric Gaines and Tony Toney each adding multiple threes. UAB struggled at the free throw line, however, knocking down only 13 of its 21 attempts.

UAB rotated 12 different players in the contest while 10 were on the floor for at least 10 minutes each.

The Maroon Tigers were paced by a 17-point performance from Texas State transfer Nate Lacewell.

NOTES

Eight players appeared in their first contest at Bartow Arena.
The rebounding battle was tied at 42 apiece.
Daniel Ortiz finished with a game-high five steals.
Eric Gaines led the Blazers with 13 points while shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Efrem "Butta" Johnson added 11 points and shot a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line.

The Blazers will be back in action on Monday, November 6 for the season-opener against Bradley. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
