UAB MBB Falls on the Road at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – UAB Men's Basketball (12-3, 3-1 C-USA) fell on the road in a back-and-forth affair at Florida Atlantic (13-1, 3-0 C-USA) by a score of 88-86. Each team led by at least six points in the second half in a contest that featured 18 lead changes. FAU guard Johnell Davis was the difference in the game with 36 points off the bench for the Owls.
Florida Atlantic jumped out to an early 18-8 lead after seven minutes in the first half, the largest advantage that either team would hold. The Blazers responded with a 13-2 run to take their first lead of the night at 21-20. Javian Davis sparked the run with buckets on back-to-back possessions.
UAB was able to gain a four-point, 39-35, advantage after Ledarrius Brewer, in his first game back from injury, knocked down his third 3-pointer with 1:28 to go in the first half. The Owls closed the half strong, however, going on a quick 6-0 run over one minute of game time. Eric Gaines was able to hit a floater with one second on the clock to tie it at 41 at the half.
In the second half, the Blazers worked the lead to seven after eight minutes at 62-55 after a pair of free throws from Javian Davis. The Owls would not go away. FAU tied it back up only two minutes later. The hosts grabbed a six-point lead of their own on a 9-0 run with 8:20 on the clock.

He grabbed an offensive board with 28 seconds left and tied it up at 84.
After Johnell Davis made a tough layup to give the Owls an 86-84 lead, the Blazers turned it over on the ensuing possession and Davis knocked down two more free throws to make it a two-possession game. Walker drove right down the floor to cut it to two with 1.6 seconds remaining. KJ Buffen came away with a steal on FAU's inbounds attempt, but he could not get a shot off at the buzzer.
