UAB Baseball to Receive New Artificial Turf at Young Memorial Field

BIRMINGHAM βΒ On Friday, Sept. 16, the UAB Baseball team gathered around Head Coach Casey Dunn and UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram after practice for the announcement of their new artificial turf field.Β

Young Memorial Field is set to receive a new turf field along with an updated padded outfield wall and fencing.Β A lead gift by Gerald and Nicki Kennedy made the $1.45 million project possible. Gerald Kennedy played baseball at UAB from 1991-92.

"My time at UAB paved the way for all of my personal and professional success," said Kennedy.Β "It meant the world to me, and I'm honored I can do something meaningful that helps our current and future Blazers achieve their goals."

"Investing in our facilities is a top priority for the UAB Department of Athletics and we are excited for the baseball team to receive a new artificial turf field," said Ingram. "We plan for this to be the first step towards other major renovations at Young Memorial Field."

Construction is set to begin Oct. 3 and will be completed leading into the 2023 season. While the field is under construction, the team will move their afternoon fall scrimmages to the Hoover Met Complex every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2:30 P.M.

"This is going to be a great addition for our program and a huge resource for our players to develop regardless of the weather," said Coach Dunn. "The most exciting part is that this is just the first step into enhancing and improving our facilities."
