Men's Tennis Wraps Up Opening Weekend

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Men's Tennis finished its first weekend of competition this fall on Sunday afternoon. Michal Lusovsky and Georgios Nouchakis were invited to compete at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic while the rest of the team participated in the Samford Invitational against host Samford, Mercer and Chattanooga.
Lusovsky and Nouchakis competed in singles and doubles in Milwaukee. Together, the pair reached the semifinals after defeating doubles teams from Wisconsin (6-3) and DePaul (6-3). The Blazers fell in the semifinals to ITA's preseason No. 4 doubles pairing from VCU (6-3), the top seed at the tournament.
In singles competition, Lusovsky fell in his first round match to Ethan Muza of Baylor (6-2, 1-6, 11-9) and then to Matija Matic of Drake in the consolation bracket (7-5, 6-4). Nouchakis dropped his opening round match to Jason Hildebrandt of Wisconsin (6-4, 6-3) before going 1-1 in the consolation bracket. Nouchakis defeated Thomas Nelson of Marquette (4-6, 7-5, 11-9) before falling to Marko Miladinovic of Baylor (6-2, 1-0, ret.).
At the Samford Invitational, Parker Bradbary led the way with a 4-0 weekend while Chase Parker, Kaustubh Holcomb, Vojtech Podzemny and Carlos Gimenez Perez finished with three wins apiece.
