Former UAB standout joins top tier league in Türkiye

BIRMINGHAM – Former UAB center Zakyia Weathersby has sign a contract with Edremit Belediyesi Gürespor. The team is located in the Balıkesir Province in the city of Edremit, which is approximately 225 miles southwest from Istanbul.

In her first game with Gürespor on Sept. 14, she picked up where she left off by recording a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebound, leading them to a 71-67 victory over Urla Municipality.

After completing her senior season, in which she led Conference USA in six different categories, Weathersby was named to the league's First Team and All-Defensive Team.

Weathersby finished the season averaging 14.8 points per game and a league-best 11.3 rebounds. Fifteen of her league-leading 21 double-doubles came in conference play. Her 55.7 field goal percentage, 120 offensive rebounds, 208 defensive rebounds and 328 total rebounds all ranked first.

Her career field goal percentage of .592 and 134 blocks is both rank second all-time in program history.
