UAB Baseball Team Earns 2021-22 Team Academic Excellence Award

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball continues to achieve high academic excellence off the field as the Blazers earned the 2021-22 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack for the seventh consecutive year.
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) recognized UAB along with nearly 700 other programs who are coached by an ABCA member and posted a GPA of 3.0 or above for the entire 2021-22 academic year.
For the Blazers, they recorded an overall GPA of 3.05 with several athletes receiving 3.5 or higher throughout the year. Right-hand pitcher, Austin Stump, collected a 4.0 while majoring in Mechanical Engineering during his senior year.
"I'm so proud of all their hard work and their continue success in the classroom," said Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services Erin Brady. "It takes dedication to achieve an overall 3.0 as a team."
Other players include Tyler Haines, who received a 3.92 in his freshman year, and freshman Henry Hunter and junior Brandon Willoughby who both earned a 3.68 GPA. Additionally, Willoughby was selected to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
UAB is one of only two Conference USA teams honored by ABCA, along with Florida Atlantic University. The program has been recognized every year since the award started in 2015-16.
