DeWayne McBride Named to Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List

BIRMINGHAM – UAB junior running back DeWayne McBride has been named to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List, which is annually presented to the college football player of the year by the Maxwell Football Club.
McBride is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he ran for the third most yards in school history (1,371) and tied for the second most touchdowns (13). His average of 6.72 yards per carry was the fifth best nationally.
The Starke, Fla. native enters 2022 as one of the premier backs in the country. He had six 100-yard games last year, including 210 against Louisiana Tech and 183 against No. 13 BYU in UAB's Independence Bowl victory. For his career, McBride is averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
Additionally, he and Jermaine Brown Jr. are the only returning running back tandem in the nation who combined for over 2,000 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns last season.
McBride is one of 85 players to be named to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List. He is one of four players from Conference USA on the list and is the only C-USA running back.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Nov. 1, 2022, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled Nov. 22, 2022. The winners of the 86th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 8, 2022. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards live from Atlantic City, N.J. on March 10, 2023.
