Hunter Named First Freshman All-American in UAB Baseball History

BIRMINGHAM – UAB freshman catcher Henry Hunter was named a Second Team Rawlings Freshman All-American by Perfect Game on Wednesday.
Hunter, a native of Grayson, Georgia, is the first Freshman All-American in UAB Baseball history. He joins former Blazers Jay Cole, Shayne Carnes, Ryan Keedy and Chase Mallard as the five Blazers who have earned All-America honors.
Hunter finished his freshman season with the Blazers batting .286 with six home runs, two triples, 14 RBI and eight stolen bases on just 10 attempts. The freshman also reached base at a .407 clip in his first season in Birmingham, drawing 25 walks in only 133 at-bats. Defensively, he threw out 17 opposing runners on the basepaths, which ranked first on the team.
Hunter also logged 10 multi-hit games, posting three straight two-hit performances in UAB wins over Middle Tennessee, Samford and Marshall. He knocked in a pair of runs in back-to-back games in May, going a combined 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and three walks in contests against Alabama State and FIU.
In May, UAB's starting catcher joined fellow freshman Thomas Ballard as the first pair of Blazers to earn Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors since 2007.
