BIRMINGHAM- Three Blazers from the UAB track and field team have advanced to the NCAA East Division Prelims, which will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 25-28.
Kat Duren (44th in the 100m hurdles), Lisa Petkov 32nd in the 400m hurdles), and Anna Massa (15th in the pole vault) will represent UAB in Indianapolis.
Massa has a 4.23m mark in the pole vault, Petkov has a 58.92 second time in the 400m hurdles, and Duren has a 13.55 second time in the 100m hurdles.
"We're obviously super proud of Kat, Anna and Lisa." said head coach Kurt Thomas. "It's great that both Anna and Lisa are two time qualifiers. Our goal for them is to be in a position to qualify for the finals in Eugene in three weeks. The NCAA Prelim meet is a lot like the NCAA basketball tournament. Two regions, East and West, best 48 individuals in each event at each region. For the running events, they'll run in round 1 on Thursday and the top 24 will qualify to race again in round 2 on Saturday. Then the top 12 on Saturday will qualify to compete at the NCAA Finals site at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR. All three have a great shots at moving on. They've worked very hard all year, they are talented and are going show up and compete at their best when it counts. I'm excited to watch them compete next week."
