BIRMINGHAM- The UAB track and field team will be traveling south this weekend to compete in the War Eagle Invite, hosted by Auburn University. The Blazers are coming off a successful weekend at the Green and Gold Invite & Multi this past weekend, where UAB won five events.
"We are excited about heading down to Auburn." said head coach Kurt Thomas. "The competition will be high and we've been gearing up for bigger meets. We've had some good success and PRs at the past couple of home meets so this will be a good test for us. The Hammer throwers will start us off tomorrow; Kaylie Wright and the long jumpers, Mya McDanal and the Javelin girls will keep it going Friday afternoon. We're looking forward to seeing Laura Thompson get a good race in tomorrow night too. Saturday will be a good test and the sprinters and hurdlers will be ready to have a good day. Shauntia Landrum has been jumping well so we're looking forward to her triple jump. Danice Loney and the vaulters are set up to do well also. Championship season is getting closer so we need to be at our best over the next several weeks."
Anna Massa is currently ranked 9th in the NCAA East Division in the pole vault, and Kat Duren is ranked 29th in the 100m hurdles.
