BIRMINGHAM – Four Blazers surpassed 15 points apiece as a balanced offensive attack led UAB to an 87-74 victory over Louisiana Tech on Senior Day in Bartow Arena.
UAB (24-7, 14-4 C-USA) won its fourth straight game entering the Conference USA Tournament with Saturday's 13-point victory, posting its 16th double-digit victory in Bartow Arena this season. The Blazers finished their regular season slate 16-1 in Bartow Arena.
With the score tied at 36-36 in the final seconds of the first half, Jordan Walker set the tone for the final 20 minutes with a deep 3-pointer to beat the buzzer. The Blazers never trailed in the second half, stretching their lead to a then game-high eight points when center Trey Jemison finished a layup in the paint to make it 54-46 with 14:21 remaining.
UAB extended its lead over LA Tech (21-9, 12-6 C-USA) to double digits for the first time when Quan Jackson turned a block into a layup on the other end, making it 62-52 Blazers with 10:06 left on the clock. The Blazers stretched their advantage to as many as 15 points when Jackson converted one of two free throws from the line to make it 73-58 with 5:05 remaining.
Walker (24), Michael Ertel (20), Jackson (16) and Jemison (16) comprised the quartet of Blazers with more than 15 points in Saturday's triumph. Ertel drilled five 3-pointers on Saturday after knocking down six triples on Wednesday at Southern Miss, while Jemison finished with a career-high 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting (88.9%) from the field. Walker closed with 12 20-point performances in his final 15 games to conclude the regular season for the Blazers.
UAB outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-26 in Saturday's victory, moving to 19-0 this season when it pulls down more boards than its opponent. The Blazers also outscored the Bulldogs 23-11 in fast-break points, collecting seven steals and tallying eight blocks in a complete performance on both ends of the court.
"This is what March basketball is supposed to look like, and I'm glad we did our part," head coach Andy Kennedy said. "I'm really proud of our guys."
The Blazers will ride a four-game winning streak into next week's 2022 Heritage Supply Group Basketball Championships in Frisco, Texas. UAB will play its first game Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. on Court B at the Ford Center at The Star. Next Thursday's game will be carried live on Stadium.
