3/31/2022 10:56:00 AM | Women's Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM- The UAB track and field team will host an outdoor meet on campus this weekend in the UAB Spring Invite. Events will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and last all day; Saturday's events begin at 9:00 a.m. and last all day.
"We are looking forward to competing at our beautiful home track and hosting a home meet," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "It's nice to travel and compete elsewhere, but the comfort of your own bed and own track always feels good. We're looking to continue to build as our season progresses. This gives us an opportunity to address event needs and get better for the 2nd half of the season."
Dozens of schools will be competing in Birmingham this weekend, including Chattanooga, Berry, Birmingham Southern, West Alabama, Mercer, Cumberland, Emory, AUM, and Georgia State.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers are coming off a successful outing in the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays, hosted by Mississippi State. UAB got four event wins, and Kat Duren turned in the fastest Conference USA time so far this season in the 100m hurdles.
The UAB Track and Field Complex will also host two Olympic Athletes this weekend. Kurt Thomas said, "We are fortunate enough to have two Olympic 200m runners from the country of Namibia, attending and competing at our meet. Beatrice Masilingi and Christine Mboma will be running the 100m and 200m on Saturday."
Masilingi placed sixth in the 200m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and Mboma captured a Silver Medal.
Fans who attend this weekend's meets are encouraged to bring their own lawn/camp/folding chairs.
