Hurley Earns MVP Honors, UAB Bowling Places Fourth at Flyer Classic

Lockport, Ill. – The UAB bowling team placed fourth in its second tournament of the 2022 spring season at the Flyer Classic, hosted by Lewis University. Junior Katie Hurley received Tournament MVP honors after placing first overall individually.
The Blazers opened up with baker games on Friday. UAB swept all five of its matches with wins over Valparaiso (854-818), Carroll College (932-905), Aurora University (870-845), North Central College (1,045-796) and Illinois Wesleyan (984-577)
UAB opened up Saturday's traditional matches with a win over Quincy, 863-851. Following the win, the green and gold split the rest of their matches with wins over Dominican (919-756) and Kentucky Wesleyan (923-865) and losses to No. 20 Lewis University (968-984) and No. 13 Maryville (878-973).
On Sunday, the Blazers concluded the tournament with a win over Carthage College (952-902) before dropping their last two matches to No. 20 Lewis (907-1,014) and Valparaiso (892-885) in a baker championship format.
Individually, Hurley led the way with a first-place finish with a total pinfall of 1,096, averaging 219.20 over the five games on her way to MVP honors. Jamie Krasnigor (960 total pinfall, 192 average, 13th overall), Jillian Hulsey (876 total pinfall, 175.2 average, 34th overall), Shauna Rodgers (819 total pinfall, 163.8 average, 40th overall) and Elise London (800 total pinfall, 160 average, 43rd overall) rounded out the Blazers' scoring.
Overall, the Blazers are 30-28 on the season and 5-3 in MEAC play. Up next, UAB travels to MEAC #2 in Norfolk, Va. on Feb. 19 and 20.
