BIRMINGHAM βΒ Protective Life Corporation (Protective) is committed to improving the quality of life of local communities and collaborating with others to create the greatest possible impact. As part of their partnership efforts, Protective recognized community organizations through their Most Valuable Protector (MVP) program at each of UAB's six home football games this fall. Through the collaboration with the UAB Department of Athletics, Protective aims to recognize deserving nonprofits making a difference and being protectors in the greater Birmingham area. Each MVP group receives pre-game hospitality, in-game recognition and a donation from the Protective Life Foundation.
Β
"Protective is proud to recognize and support these organizations through the MVP program," said Eva Robertson, Vice President for Community Relations for Protective and Executive Director of Protective Life Foundation. "From programs of innovation to children and family services to arts and culture, Birmingham would not be the Magic City without these organizations. We are proud to share them with the Blazer family."
Β
Ed FarmΒ β Ed Farm was recognized as this season's first MVP at the home opener on Sept. 1 against Alabama A&M. Ed Farm is a tech and education startup nonprofit headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. It launched in February 2020 with founding support from Apple and Alabama Power Company. Better BasicsΒ β Better Basics' mission is to eradicate illiteracy among children in Central Alabama. They deliver reading and math instruction and resources to empower the educationally vulnerable. Research shows that access to books in the home is a greater determinant of academic success than even a parent's level of education. Protective was proud to honor Better Basics on-field at Protective Stadium on Sept. 17.
Β
Children's HarborΒ β Protective continues to honor Children's Harbor each season for the homecoming game. Children's Harbor serves serious and chronically ill children and their families both in Birmingham at the Family Center in Children's of Alabama and at the Lake Martin retreat facility. Children's Harbor strengthens families whose child has been diagnosed with an illness through professional licensed counseling, educational support and respite services.Β Β
