UAB Lands 20 Players on All-Conference USA Football Teams

BIRMINGHAM – Led by five Blazers earning First Team All-Conference USA honors, UAB had 20 players garner C-USA postseason accolades. The awards were voted on by the league's 11 head coaches.
UAB's First Team All-Conference USA recipients are running back DeWayne McBride, left tackle Kadeem Telfort, right tackle Sidney Wells, linebacker Noah Wilder and cornerback Starling Thomas V.
Representing the Blazers on Second Team All-Conference USA are running back Jermaine Brown Jr., center Will Rykard, right guard Quincy McGee, nose tackle Fish McWilliams and safety Grayson Cash.
Honorable Mention All-Conference USA recipients include left guard Matthew Trehern, wide receivers Trea Shropshire and Tejhuan Palmer, defensive end Drew Tuazama, defensive tackle Isaiah Forte, linebacker Tyler Taylor, safeties Jaylen Key and Keondre Swoopes, punter Kyle Greenwell, long snapper Cole Kizziah and kick returner Jermaine Brown Jr.
McBride led the entire nation in rushing yards (1,713) and rushing yards per game (155.7,) and ran behind a vaunted offensive line who was led by tackles Telfort and Wells. UAB set the single season school record for rushing yards (2,925) and currently ranks fifth nationally in rushing yards per game (243.8). McBride's total rushing yards and rushing touchdowns (19) also established new school records.
Defensively, Noah Wilder compiled 102 tackles in the regular season and if not for sustaining an injury early in UAB's last game against Louisiana Tech, he was on pace to lead Conference USA in tackles per game. Wilder ranks third all-time at UAB in career tackles with 330.
Starling Thomas V led a unit that ranked near the top of the nation in passing defense for the majority of the season. He finished with a team-high 15 pass breakups, which were the second most in Conference USA this season.
The Blazers (6-6) are set to play Miami (OH) (6-6) in the 2022 HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl which is set for next Friday, Dec. 16 at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. This is the first meeting between the two schools.
