Quinn and Wells Named to C-USA Football All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM – Placekicker Matt Quinn and right tackle Sidney Wells have been named to the Conference USA Football All-Academic Team, as announced by league officials on Thursday.
Quinn and Wells are both first time recipients of this academic award. Quinn holds a 3.90 GPA in accounting, while Wells carries a 3.8 in his Master's program of interdisciplinary studies. UAB was just one of two teams in the league, along with UTEP, to have multiple representatives on the list.
On the field, Quinn (R-Jr.) connected on 13-of-18 field goals and was a perfect 42-of-42 on PAT in the regular season. His 81 points were second most on the team.
Wells, a senior, was part of UAB's dominant offensive line that blocked for record setting running back DeWayne McBride. The OL was named to the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll, given to the top offensive line in the nation. Wells helped establish new school records for total rushing yards (2,925) and rushing yards per game (243.8).
The Blazers head to the Bahamas on Dec. 12 to prepare for their bowl game against Miami (OH) in the 2022 HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl which is set for Friday, Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m. ET/10:30 a.m. CT on ESPN.
