DeWayne McBride Named Doak Walker Award Semifinalist

BIRMINGHAM – UAB junior running back DeWayne McBride has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is annually presented to the nation's top running back by the PcW SMU Athletic Forum.
McBride is the first ever UAB player to be named a Doak Walker Award Semifinalist and is the only Group of 5 player named a semifinalist this season.
Joining McBride as a Doak Walker Semifinalist is: Israel Abanikanda (Pitt), Chase Brown (Illinois), Zach Chabonnet (UCLA), Blake Corum (Michigan), Mohamed Ibrahim (Minnesota), Quinshon Judkins (Ole Miss), Kendre Miller (TCU), Bijan Robinson (Texas) and Deuce Vaughn (Kansas State).
In 10 games this season, McBride has rushed for 1,441 yards and 18 touchdowns. His average of 144.1 yards per game and his 18 rushing touchdowns rank him second nationally in both categories.
McBride has rushed for over 100 yards in nine of 10 games and has five multi-rushing touchdown games this season. His 18 touchdowns are a single season record and he is 147 yards away from setting the single season school rushing record entering Saturday's game at Louisiana Tech.
McBride has put together an All-America worthy season and will end the season as one of the most decorated players in school history. Along with being a Doak Walker Semifinalist, he is also Maxwell Award Semifinalist which is presented to the Collegiate Player of the Year by the Maxwell Football Club.
Finalists for the Doak Walker Award will be announced on Nov. 29 and the winner will be unveiled live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Award show.
