UAB Bowling Place Third at ISTAP Hornet Classic

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Bowling team finished third (10-3) at the ISTAP Hornet Classic this past weekend in Montgomery, Ala. The Blazers finished the 2022 portion of their season on a high note with several bowlers recording best individual stats and two making the All-Tournament Team.
Friday, Nov. 18th:
UAB played five baker matches and ended the day going 4-1.
Match one versus Alabama A&M – Win (892-758)
Match two versus Jackson State – Win (990-727)
Match three versus Southern – Win (854-807)
Match four versus Alabama State – Loss (803-939)
Match five versus Grambling State – Win (871-753)
Saturday, Nov. 19th:
The Blazers went undefeated (5-0) during the traditional matches on Saturday to qualify first heading into Championship Sunday.
Match one versus Tusculum – Win (918-830)
Match two versus Florida A&M – Win (931-822)
Match three versus Alabama A&M – Win (890-786)
Match four versus Jackson State – Win (868-798)
Match five versus Southern – Win (935-829)
Sunday, Nov. 20th:
For Championship Sunday, best 4-out-of-7 baker matches were played in bracket format – the team who reaches four wins first, wins the match.
Match one versus Alabama State – Loss, 4-2
Match two versus Tusculum – Loss, 4-1
Match three versus Jackson State – Win, 4-1
The Blazer's win against Jackson State placed them third overall for the weekend.
Individual Highlights:
All five bowlers finished in the Top 15 for the weekend including Kacey Marshal (3rd) and Madelynn Oliva (5th) who finished Top 5.
Marshal bowled her best individual game with collecting her career-high collegiate score of 244. With her outstanding performance, Marshal was selected as one of the two Blazers for the All-Tournament Team – first of her career.
Oliva was also selected for the All-Tournament Team – first of her career – after finishing fifth overall and collecting one game over 200 (213).
Jillian Hulsey had one of her best performances this weekend with collecting one game over 200 (227) and finished eighth overall.
Keagan Trexler (14th) and Savannah Schneider (15th) both collected one game over 200 – Trexler 223, Schneider 210 – while combining for 1,773 total pinfalls.
UAB Bowling will look forward to starting tournament season again in 2023 with the Northeast Classic on Jan. 20, 2023.
