DALLAS – The UAB Volleyball Team acquired three C-USA All-Conference honors for the 2022 season. Fernanda Maida, Alex Kells, and Maia Rackel all received the postseason honors, announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Maida, who received the First Team All-Conference honor on behalf of the Blazers, finished the regular season with 329 kills. The Cochabamba, Bolivia native, who closes out her final season as a Blazer, also surpassed the 1000-kill mark on Sept. 25 against Charlotte. Maida also claims the fourth-place spot in the league in kills, averaging 3.70 per set.
For All-Conference Second Team honors, Kells and Rackel both receive their nods. Kells, who has spent six seasons donning the Green and Gold, also sits in the top ten in kills with a total of 316. She also surpassed 1000 kills this season against MTSU, with fellow All-Conference Second Team member, Maia Rackel. In partnership with her athletic accolades, Kells received an All-Academic team honor the week of Nov. 8.
Rackel, who joined the Blazers as a grad transfer, hit the ground running. The Signal Mountain, Tenn. native received All-Tournament team honors at the Buffalo Invite to start her Blazer career. She sits in third place in kills on the Blazers with 298. In addition to kills, she contributed in digs, holding the No. 3 spot on the team. She surpassed the 1000-kill mark, while maintaining a hitting percentage of .264 throughout the regular season.
