Jordan "Jelly" Walker Named to Wooden Award Watchlist

BIRMINGHAM – The John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy's released this year's Preseason Top 50 Watchlist. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team™ and Most Outstanding Player Award.
UAB senior guard Jordan Walker earned a spot on the list after a stellar 2021-22 campaign. Walker scored 20.3 points and 4.9 assists per game while leading the Blazers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
Walker is one of only nine returning players to average 20 points per game or more during the 2021-22 season. He finished third nationally with 116 three-pointers and 14th in points scored (690). During the season, "Jelly" scored at least 20 points in 18 games. He was the only player in Conference USA to score at least 30 points in three games. Walker recorded a pair of 40-point performances, both against Middle Tennessee. His 42 points during the regular season against MTSU marked a new single-game UAB record, surpassing current UAB head coach Andy Kennedy's previous record of 41.
Walker has started the 2022-23 season averaging 31.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game through his first two contests. He is shooting 45 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. He scored 38 points in the Blazers' season opening win over Alabama State while shooting 11-for-19 from the field.
