Breakdown of UAB Baseball’s Nine Signees

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball head coach Casey Dunn and staff announced the addition of nine signees – Michael Petite, Braxton Brooks, Alex Cheeseman, Brooks House, Nick Martinez, Colin Patterson, Christian Stratis, Chase Williams and Jax Yoxtheimer – for Fall 2023.

"I am excited to welcome nine outstanding young men into our program. Over the past year and a half Coach Alan Kunkel has led our staff's efforts in putting together another top 100 signing class," said Coach Dunn. "All of these guys have competed well in high school. Each of them played for some of the premier travel organizations and are currently ranked as a Top 500 player or higher in their class. Each of their individual experiences at a high level should aide the transition into Division I baseball."

Michael Petite | Palm Bay, Fla. | Melbourne | Outfielder

Dunn's Deliberation: "Michael is a dynamic player that has a huge upside. He is an above average runner with power. In addition, he has big arm and has been up to 93 on the mound. He has a chance to make an immediate impact on our program."

Braxton Brooks | Monroe, Ga. | Walnut Grove | Infielder

Dunn's Deliberation: "Braxton is a hard-nosed kid that can hit. We believe he will develop into a hitter that will produce a lot of extra base hits during his time on campus."

Dunn's Deliberation: "Nick is a physical right-handed hitter that has the ability to drive the baseball. In addition, he has been up to 94 on the mound and will provide and big arm out of the bullpen."

Colin Patterson | Lester, Ala. | West Limestone | Right-Hand Pitcher

Dunn's Deliberation: "I am very excited about Colin. He is somewhat of a sleeper in this year's class. Colin is a three-sport standout in high school that has yet to focus solely on baseball. He has a chance to be one of the top arms in our state this year and develop into a special talent. He is tall and athletic and already throws over the 90-mph mark."

Dunn's Deliberation: "Christian is a versatile player that can play several spots on the field. He is a true hitter and that has feel for the barrel."

Dunn's Deliberation: "Chase has game changing speed and could be a premier centerfielder as he develops. He provides a different skill set than others in this class and can change the game with his legs. We see Chase developing into a true top of the order hitter that will carry on the tradition of great base stealers here at UAB."

Jax Yoxtheimer | Phenix City, Ala. | Phenix City Central | Outfielder

Dunn's Deliberation: "Jax is another special athlete that has a knack to hit. He is very tough and competitive kid that will bring a lot to our program. He has performed in big games and has a chance to be great player here at UAB."
