DeWayne McBride Named Maxwell Award Semifinalist

BIRMINGHAM - The nation's leading rusher DeWayne McBride has been named a semifinalist for the 86th Maxwell Award, which is given to the Collegiate Player of the Year by the Maxwell Football Club.
McBride is one of 20 semifinalists on the list and is the only player from the Group of 5 to be recognized.
McBride is having one of the greatest individual seasons in school history and is on pace to set the UAB single season rushing record. In seven games, he has rushed for 1,146 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 7.0 yards per carry.
The Starke, Fla. native is leading the country in rushing yards per game with an average of 163.7. He has rushed for over 100 yards in every game this season and has two 200-yard rushing games so far.
Along with leading the country in rushing yards per game, McBride is also the NCAA active career leader in rushing yards per game (113.7) and yards per carry (7.1).
With 2,956 career rushing yards in 26 games, McBride is on the verge of becoming just the second player in school history to surpass 3,000 career rushing yards. He also ranks second at UAB in career 100-yard rushing games (15) and third in career touchdowns (29).
McBride and the Blazers return to Protective Stadium this Saturday to host league leading UTSA at 2:30 p.m.
