BIRMINGHAM – UAB Athletics has announced the debut of Blazer Made, the school's program that focuses on the holistic development of all UAB student-athletes. The new initiative will provide comprehensive programming within the areas: Personal Development, Leadership Development and Career Preparedness. In addition to the three core areas, community service and engagement will serve as bedrock – the fundamental principle on which UAB Athletics was built.
"We are excited to launch Blazer Made," said Antwan Joseph, Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services.. "This will enhance the holistic development of UAB student-athletes as well as create opportunities that will have a great impact on their respective futures."
With the emergence of Health & Wellness needs as well as Name, Image and Likeness, personal development education and training will include these areas to provide resources for student-athletes so they can manage the changing landscape of college athletics.
"As important as it is that our student-athletes develop academically and athletically, it is as equally important that they develop personally and professionally. The launching of Blazer Made displays UAB Athletics' commitment to the growth of our student-athletes during their collegiate careers and beyond graduation."
Under the guidance of the Student-Athlete Support Services staff, programming began in September and will continue throughout the academic year. Event and workshop topics will cover everything from nutrition, health & wellness and resume & cover letter building to career mixers for job/internship career placement and diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives – via Blazer Allies.
The enhancement Blazer Made delivers to UAB student-athletes on a yearly basis will provide them with the know-how to achieve greater success upon graduation and in their respective professional careers.
