DALLAS – Erin Powers (Soph., Mukwonago, Wisc.) was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Powers, who helped the Blazers to two straight-set victories last weekend, totaled 32 digs for the Blazers. In addition to her digs, she was able to contribute six service aces, with a career-high five in UAB's win over Middle Tennessee on Friday.
"There are a lot of good defenders in CUSA, and it's a tremendous honor for Erin to be recognized at the top of that list this week," said head coach, Betsy Freeburg. "Liberos tend to be the unsung heroes on rosters, and Erin's serving, and defensive play certainly helped lead to our team success!"
This is Powers' first Defensive Player of the Week honor for the 2022 season. She sits in the top 50 in digs per set (4.60) and total digs (382) as of Oct. 24. Powers has a total of 33 service aces, 382 digs, and has played 83 sets for the Blazers.
UAB will return to action Friday, playing the No. 23 WKU Hilltoppers in Bowling Green on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. They'll return to Bartow that Sunday to play Charlotte at noon.
