UAB Men's Soccer Falls to FIU, 2-1

MIAMI – UAB men's soccer (3-8-3, 1-4-2 AAC) fell behind 2-0 early and could not make up the deficit on the road, falling to FIU (8-4-1, 4-2-1 AAC) by a score of 2-1.
The Panthers scored a pair of goals within the first 10 minutes that proved to be the difference in the contest. Fumiya Shiraishi put FIU on top in the fourth minute with his third goal of the season. Stephen Afrifa then made it a 2-0 contest with eighth goal of the year in the 10th minute.
Early in the second half, Curtis DeLeon's corner found Guillermo Rodriguez near the far post and his header cut the FIU lead in half.
In the 76th minute, Willsey League was sent off with a red card, forcing the Blazers to play shorthanded for the remainder of the match. UAB was able to manage a few chances on goal in the late stages, but the Blazers could not equalize.
NOTES
UAB will return home on Friday, Oct. 28 to take on Temple at 7 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
