Zuniga Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – For the third time this season, Conference USA announced that Asha Zuniga is the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
The senior captain anchored a UAB defensive unit that recorded back-to-back shutouts over Charlotte (10/13) and WKU (10/16). In 180 minutes of play, the backline only surrendered five shots on target.
Zuniga's also took home the award on Aug. 23 and Sept. 27.
In C-USA play this season, the UAB defense has allowed only two goals and is first in the league with a 0.25 goals against average. In eight C-USA games, the Blazers have recorded six clean sheets.
"This was another great weekend for Asha and her backline," said head coach Erica Demers. "This award is just another reflection of her consistent play and the impact she has within our program."
The Blazers, who are unbeaten in a school record 10 consecutive matches, finish out the road portion of their schedule at LA Tech on Oct. 23. The regular season ends on Oct. 29 against Rice at PNC Field for Senior Night.
The 2022-23 Gold Card for $65 here. The 2021-22 Gold Card will get you access to all home events for Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial). This card is not valid for Conference USA or NCAA Championship events.
