DALLAS – With a career-high 36 points in Saturday's key Conference USA road victory at Louisiana Tech, Jordan Walker has been named Conference USA's Player of the Week for the second straight week.
After earning Conference USA Player of the Week honors for the first time this past week, Walker followed up a then career-high 27 points with 36 points and nine made 3-pointers in Saturday's 83-76 road victory at LA Tech. Walker's performance not only helped the Blazers snap LA Tech's 18-game home winning streak, but it also helped UAB capture its first win in the Thomas Assembly Center in program history.
Walker's clinical performance from behind the 3-point line helped him tie a school record with nine made 3-pointers. His 36 points tied a Thomas Assembly Center record and his nine 3-pointers set a new Thomas Assembly Center record. He also finished Saturday's matchup with three rebounds and two assists while shooting 9-of-15 from 3-point range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
The Port Washington, New York native has now scored 20 points or more in four straight games and has scored 17+ in all but one Conference USA contest this season. Walker's 21.43 points per game in league play ranks second in the C-USA. He also ranks first in the conference in total 3-pointers made (30) and 3-pointers made per game (4.29).
Most importantly, Walker's performance helped catapult the Blazers into a tie for first place in Conference USA's West Division at 6-1. UAB holds the current tiebreaker with wins over North Texas and LA Tech, both of whom also hold a 6-1 league record.
UAB will continue its road stretch on Thursday when the Blazers battle WKU (10-9, 2-4 C-USA) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Thursday's game is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be carried live on CBS Sports Network.
