Blazer Boosters Records Historic Success In 2021 Giving Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Thanks to the generous support of UAB alumni, friends, and the Birmingham corporate community, the UAB Department of Athletics announced today that the 2021 year was the most prolific in the history of the UAB Athletics Foundation, or Blazer Boosters. Blazer Boosters set multiple record highs in support of UAB Athletics during the historic 2021 giving year.
As of December 31, 2021, cash received by Blazer Boosters totaled more than $7 million, a nearly 70 percent increase from 2020 and surpassed $5 million for the sixth time in the last seven giving years. In addition, total membership exceeded 2,050 donors for the first time in school history, which is a 90 percent increase over the last seven years.
The Blazer Scholarship Fund also saw record support in 2021. Blazer Boosters members generously gave more than $2.7 million to the scholarship fund this past year, an all-time high and a 93 percent increase from 2020. New members totaled more than 850 supporters, which also accounts for another giving year record.
"It is not a coincidence that as the support from our Blazer Boosters members grows, so does our ability to Win Championships, Graduate with Honors, and Make a Difference," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "We are grateful for each and every member that helped make 2021 such an exciting year in the history of this department."
"UAB Athletics continues to reach new heights thanks to the generosity of our supporters," stated Brad Hardekopf, UAB Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. "Our donors have continued to step up, and we are looking forward to carrying this momentum forward as we begin the 2022 giving year."
In an effort to say 'Thank You' to everyone who supported in 2021, UAB student-athletes will be participating in the Annual Blazer Boosters Thank-A-Thon from January 24-28. Blazer Boosters members from the past year should prepare to receive a phone call from a student-athlete from one of UAB's eighteen sports teams as a sign of our gratitude.
"The generosity of UAB Alumni, friends, and the Birmingham corporate community continues to shape the future of our University and Blazer athletics," stated Trey Frazier, Associate Athletic Director for Development. "We are incredibly excited and grateful for all who helped make 2021 such a special year and look forward to continued success in 2022."
Blazer Boosters are alumni and friends of UAB who recognize the value of the student-athlete experience. A Blazer Boosters membership is defined as anyone who gives a minimum of $50 to generate funding for student-athlete scholarships, capital projects and facility improvements, and the enhancement of sport specific operating budgets.
