Khavish Varadan Named Conference USA Golfer of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – For winning his first collegiate tournament and leading the UAB men's golf program to the team title at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate, sophomore Khavish Varadan has been named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week.
Varadan shot a career low 205 (-12) to win the Graeme McDowell by one stroke over teammate Nick Robillard. The Blazers finished the tournament -27 overall and won by 23 strokes over Florida Gulf Coast.
Varadan was under par in every round (69-69-66), and his 66 in the final round was the tournament low round.
Most impressively, Varadan made a 20-foot birdie putt on 18 in the final round to win the tournament outright.
"What a fantastic start to the season for Khavish," said head coach Matt Whall. "He works so hard at his game and it's really pleasing that the outcome justified the work this week. He was battling hard with Nick Robillard for the individual title and just edged a great battle with a birdie on a tough finishing hole. I'm excited to see if we can keep the momentum going into the rest of the season."
The Blazers take the course again in two weeks when they travel to the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate hosted by ETSU on Oct. 10-12.
