BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's golf team is set to host the Hoover Invitational this Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21 at Heatherwood Golf and Country Club.
Due to extreme flooding at Hoover Country Club over the weekend, the location of the tournament has been changed to Heatherwood Golf and Country Club. The event is free and open to the public.
"We are excited to host a tournament here in Birmingham and are grateful to Heatherwood for accommodating us on short notice," said head coach Kari Bellville. "Our players are eager to get back on the course and they will be ready for the challenge of playing well at our home tournament."
Monday's shotgun start is slated to begin at 9 a.m. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The course is par 72 and plays 5,839 yards.
Along with UAB, the field 13-team field includes Alabama (individuals), Belmont, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville State, Jacksonville, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Tulane (individuals), Troy and ULM.
This is UAB's second tournament of the 2021-22 season and the Blazers look to improve upon an 12th place finish two weeks ago at the USA Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama.
Coach Bellville will field a lineup of Emilia Smith, Rose Baral, Karlee Allen, Erika Allen and Caroline Waldrop. Marilyn Steed will also participate as an individual.
