UAB Men's Tennis Opens Fall Slate at Samford

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team will open its 2021-22 season with a fall tournament at Samford this weekend. UAB's first action under new head coach Justin DeSanto will begin on Friday in Homewood, Alabama.
Along with UAB and Samford, the Samford Fall Invite #1 will also feature student-athletes from Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern and Southern Miss. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. each day with doubles play preceding singles action.
UAB's Thanos Spyropoulos, Vojtech Podzemny, Nikola Puric, Martin Vasquez and Chase Parker will make the short trip to open their 2021-22 campaigns. Doubles pairings of Spyropoulos and Puric (No. 1 pairing) and Podzemny and Martin (No. 2 pairing) will also compete throughout the weekend.
The Blazers will face one team in doubles competition each morning before playing a different team in singles play in the afternoon. Podzemny will play in the No. 1 singles slot followed by Spyropoulos (No. 2), Puric (No. 3), Parker (No. 4) and Vasquez (No. 5).
Following this weekend's opening tournament, UAB will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for a tournament at Southern Miss.
