BIRMINGHAM – Coming off the program's eighth appearance at NCAA Nationals last season, the UAB men's golf team has announced its scheduled for the upcoming season which begins Sept. 20-21 in Chattanooga.
Under the direction of first year head coach Matt Whall, the Blazers return a talented and veteran-led team that has aspirations of making it back to nationals this season.
"These are exciting times for UAB golf," said Whall. "We are looking forward to the challenge of competing across the country against some of the best teams in the nation. The opportunity to compete close to home will also be special and we hope as many families and friends can come out to support us."
The Blazers open the season with two tournaments that they won a season ago at the Scenic City Collegiate (Sept. 20-21) hosted by Chattanooga and the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate (Sept. 27-28) which the Blazers host. This year's Graeme McDowell will be played at RTJ Silver Lakes in Gadsden.
UAB concludes the fall slate with two tournaments in October, the first being at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate hosted by ETSU from Oct. 10-12. Following a week off, the Blazers then head to Mobile for the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational hosted by South Alabama, Oct. 30-31.
The spring slate begins with UAB making its first of two trips to Ponte Verda Beach, Fla. for the Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville University, Jan. 31-Feb. 1. The Blazers' other trip to Ponte Verda Beach comes March 29-30 at The Hayt hosted by North Florida.
UAB will once again play in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama from Feb. 14-15. The Blazers then head out west for the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate hosted by Coastal Carolina in Henderson, Nev. That tournament is set for Feb. 28-March 2.
After missing last season's Schenkel Invitational, the Blazers return to Statesboro, Ga., to partake in a tournament they are very familiar with. Prior to last season, UAB had played in nine straight Schenkel Invitationals. This year's Schenkel is March 18-20.
The Blazers round out the regular season at Mississippi State for the Mossy Oak Collegiate which is scheduled for April 11-12.
The Conference UAS Championship returns to Texarkana, Ark., April 25-28, which is followed by NCAA Regionals and NCAA Nationals. Regionals will be played at six predetermined sites around the country. Nationals return to Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale where UAB finished 24th overall a season ago.
Reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Year Nick Robillard headlines a core group of returners which also includes Khavish Varadan, Ethan Hagood and John Snoddy.
