Fernanda Maida Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – UAB volleyball junior Fernanda Maida has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Maida led the Blazers to 2-1 record at the Ram Volleyball Classic, with wins over Oregon State and SIUE. The outside hitter played in 11 sets and with 53 kills (4.82 kills/set) and hit .400 on the weekend.
The junior from Cochabamba, Bolivia recorded 13 kills in the program's first-ever victory over a Pac-12 opponent in Oregon State in a three-game sweep.
"We are so happy for Fernanda to be recognized as C-USA Player of the Week," head coach Betsy Freeburg said. "This is a testament to not only her great weekend and the work she's put in, but also to the entire team's success in Colorado."
On the season, Maida has totaled 113 kills, which ranks third in C-USA. In addition, she has registered 52 digs, 11 service aces and six blocks.
This marks the first Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honor since Abby Carlile in 2018.
Up next, UAB will play in the Green Wave Invitational this weekend at Bartow Arena, with games against Texas Tech, Sam Houston and Tulane. Admission into all matches will be free.
