UAB Women's Volleyball Earns the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB volleyball team earned the 2020-21 United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, the organization announced on Monday.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
The Blazers posted a 3.52 cumulative team GPA during the 2020-21 academic year.
"We are so proud of our team and their efforts in the classroom this year," head coach Betsy Freeburg said.
"They adjusted and overcame the challenges that came with the COVID school year, and it showed in their GPA. It's truly an honor for our team to be recognized for their efforts, and we are thankful to the USMC/AVCA for this award."
This is the third time in program history that the Blazers have won this award, including the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
UAB also had 13 volleyball student-athletes named to the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor, while Erin Powers, Laney Dale and Caroline Stogner were awarded the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.
