BIRMINGHAM – Redshirt junior Nick Robillard has been named the 2020-21 Conference USA Golfer of the Year, league officials announced Tuesday.
Robillard is the highest ranked individual golfer in Conference USA on the highest ranked team in the league. He's been the catalyst all season long for a Blazer team that re-wrote the record book in 2020-21.
"I am really proud of Nick and what he has accomplished this year," said head coach Mike Wilson. "His work ethic on and off the course is phenomenal. He took advantage of his redshirt year last season and it elevated his game to being one of the best players in the country."
Robillard owns a 71.7 stroke average this season, currently the sixth lowest average in school history. The Birmingham native is having a monster year and opened the campaign by winning UAB's first tournament of the season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
Led by Robillard's elite play, UAB reached its highest ranking in school history of No. 5 on Nov. 17, 2020. In three fall tournaments, Robillard placed first, third and fifth and shot at or under par in six of nine rounds.
Robillard is the fifth Blazer to be named Conference USA Golfer of the Year and joins a list of UAB golf luminaries which includes Chris Devlin (1996-97, 1998-99, 1999-00), Graeme McDowell (2000-01, 2001-02), Zack Sucher (2007-08) and Paul Dunne (2013-14).
Along with excelling on the course, Robillard was also one of five golfers in the league named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. He graduated last week with a 3.91 GPA in Finance.
The Blazers are currently the 37th-ranked team in the nation and will find out what NCAA Regional they will be selected to on Wednesday afternoon.
