Back-to-Back: Wilson Named C-USA Coach of the Year Again

BIRMINGHAM – Head Coach Mike Wilson of the UAB men's golf team has earned his second-consecutive Conference USA Coach of the Year award, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The award is voted on by the league's head coaches and Wilson was named Co-Coach of the Year alongside Mark McEntire of Middle Tennessee.
"To win Conference USA Coach of the Year is an amazing accomplishment, but to win it back-to-back just shows how great of a coach Mike Wilson is," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "Mike consistently has the UAB men's golf program competing on the national level and I am excited to see what they do at NCAA Regionals."
UAB is currently the highest ranked team in Conference USA at No. 37 and will learn its destination for NCAA Regionals on Wednesday, May 5, at 1 p.m. This will be UAB's first NCAA Regional appearance since the 2015-16 season and the 13th in program history. For Wilson, it is his first time bringing the Blazers to NCAAs, and if not for COVID-19 cutting last season short, it would be UAB's second-consecutive trip.
Wilson guided the Blazers to the highest national ranking in program history as UAB reached No. 5 on Nov. 17, 2020, following three-consecutive tournament victories. It was just the third time in program history that UAB has won three tournaments in the same season.
Under his guidance, junior Nick Robillard became the fifth player in school history to be named Conference USA Golfer of the Year. Robillard is currently the highest ranked golfer in C-USA and has UAB's sixth lowest season stroke average in school history.
Robillard earned First Team All-Conference honors, while freshman Khavish Varadan and senior grad transfer Drew Mathers are Second Team All-Conference selections in 2020-21.
In five years at UAB, Wilson has led four players to First Team All-Conference USA honors, along with having the C-USA Player of the Year and C-USA Freshman of the Year.
