UAB Baseball Falls to Samford in Season Finale

HOMEWOOD, Ala. — The UAB baseball team fell in the season finale at Samford, 9-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
UAB wraps up the season with a 18-36 record and an 11-21 mark in Conference USA play.
Colton Schultz led the Blazers at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Chandler Simpson, Jess Davis, Zack Davis J Paul Fullerton and Thomas Johns collected hits in the contest.
Sam Brace pitched four innings in relief, only allowing four hits with two strikeouts. Starter Tanner Rusk (1-3) picked up the loss, while Samford starter Hamp Skinner (4-2) earned the win.
Samford (31-20, 19-8 SoCon) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead after four innings.
The Blazers scored their first run in the seventh on a leadoff home run from Johns. Simpson scored on a single up the middle by J. Davis for the second run of the inning.
Schultz added to the scoring in the seventh on a towering two-run shot over the right field scoreboard to bring the score to the eventual final tally, 9-4.
