UAB Falls to No. 44 Middle Tennessee in C-USA Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTE – The UAB men's tennis team dropped its Conference USA Champinship quarterfinal match with No. 44 and league one-seed Middle Tennessee 4-0 on Friday afternoon at Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
UAB (5-12) started hot in doubles, taking leads on courts one and two before the Blue Raiders (15-7) won on courts two and three to claim the point. On court two, Daniel Janko and Vojtech Podzemny fell to Tom Moonen and Chris Edge, 6-4, while court three saw Francisco Rocha and Max Rauch top Giovani Pasini and Thanos Spyropolous, 6-0.
Middle Tennessee opened up singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 court four win as Edge overcame Podzemny. Pavel Motl put the Blue Raiders up 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Nikola Puric, before Roman Postolka was beaten by nationally-ranked No. 49 Rocha on court one, 6-2, 6-1.
UAB leads the all-time series between the two teams 14-13 with Middle Tennessee having claimed the last five contests. The Blazers' last Conference USA Championship win came in 2016 when the Blazers overcame Southern Miss 4-2 in the opening round.
