WKU Gets By UAB in C-USA Quarterfinals, 1-0

HOUSTON – WKU's Annah Hopkins scored the only goal of the match in the 33rd minute to lead the Lady Toppers to a 1-0 victory over UAB in the Conference USA quarterfinal round on Tuesday afternoon.
WKU (8-1-2) advances to face the winner of North Texas and Charlotte on Thursday. UAB's season concludes with a record of 8-6-1.
Anika Toth, who made three saves on the afternoon, came up big in the sixth minute when she made a diving save on WKU's Katie Erwin from just inside the box.
The Blazers had a chance to strike first in the 26th minute when WKU keeper Ashley Kobylinski gave away the ball on a bad pass which Morgan Halliwill capitalized on. However, Kobylinski was able to recover and make the stop.
UAB had an opportunity for the equalizer in the 65th minute when it was awarded a penalty kick after a WKU foul in the box. Kamilah Mustafa was called upon to take the PK, but her shot ricocheted off the crossbar and was punched out by Kobylinski.
The Blazers had another opportunity in the 83rd minute when Halliwill's cross found Lexxe Lipsey in the box, who found an open Laura Zemberyova, but her shot was blocked by WKU defender Chelsea Moore.
