Trio of Blazers Named to All-Conference USA Teams

BIRMINGHAM – After playing key roles for UAB this season, Margaret Whitley, Zakyia Weathersby and Caitlynn Daniels have all been named to All-Conference USA Teams, the league office announced on Monday morning.
Zakyia Weathersby, All-Conference Second Team
Weathersby is UAB and C-USA's leading rebounder, averaging more than 12 boards a game. The senior center has posted a league-high 13 double-doubles, the 11th most in the nation.
She also ranks in the top-13 in the NCAA in total rebounds (253), defensive rebounds per game (8.3) and field goal percentage (58.74%).
Weathersby leads C-USA in defensive rebounds (177) and is No. 3 in blocked shots (41) and offensive rebounds (76).
The Collins, Miss. native had three 20-plus rebounding games this season and five 20-plus scoring games. She posted a career-high 21 boards and a season-high 27 points at Old Dominion Feb. 19, which culminated in her being named C-USA Player of the Week, the first weekly honor of her career.

Whitley has been UAB's offensive leader this season, averaging more than 19 points a game and tallying a team-high 67 assists. She started all of the Blazers' 21 games, scoring in double-digits in 19 of them.
The Geneva, Ill. native also had 12 20-plus point games, in addition to two 30-plus point performances. She was recognized after a 34-point performance at Chattanooga on Dec. 6 by being named C-USA Player of the Week.
The guard is the No. 3 scorer in C-USA, leads the conference in free throw percentage (86.8%), and has made the most 3-pointers of any player in the league (66), which also ranks her No. 12 in the NCAA in the category.
"I'm very happy for Margaret and Zakyia," Head coach Randy Norton said. "They have both been our two most consistent players all season long. They do a great job representing our program in the classroom, on the court and in the community. They are both are amazing individuals."
Whitley and Weathersby become the ninth and tenth players to be named to an all-conference team under Norton.
Caitlynn Daniels, All-Freshman Team
Daniels started 14 games and appeared in 20 in her first season as Blazer. She posted eight double-digit scoring games, is averaging 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and has tallied 62 assists on the season. The freshman also paces the team with 16 steals.
She was named C-USA Freshman of the Week twice this season (1/11/21) and (2/22/21). The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native posted a career-high nine assists at Old Dominion (2/16/21) and scored a career-high 21 points at Southern Miss (1/8/21).
Daniels becomes the fourth freshman under head coach Randy Norton to be named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team and the eleventh freshman overall in UAB program history to receive the honor.
"Caitlynn has continued to improve all season long and I believe her best basketball is in front of her," Norton said.
The last time UAB had a freshman named to the All-Freshman Team during the 2016-17 season when both Miyah Barnes and Rachael Childress were selected.
