No. 19 Georgia Edges Out UAB Softball, 4-3

ATHENS, Ga. – Despite a three-run seventh inning, the UAB softball team fell on the road to No. 19 Georgia on Friday night, 4-3. Five different Blazers had hits in the matchup, while KK Crocker and Olivia Valbak each had an RBI.

The first two innings of the game were dominated by pitching, with Parker Conrad striking out four in the circle.

That changed in the third when Georgia struck first offensively, plating three runs, two as the result of a two-run homerun, ending the inning up 3-0.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the fourth, going up 4-0 and holding onto the lead and the shutout until the seventh.

A combination of good hitting by UAB and two Bulldog errors allowed the Blazers to get back into the game in their final three outs.

The seventh inning started off with Sierra Frazier reaching on an error. Makalah Mitchell then entered the game as a pinch runner for Frazier and immediately stole second base.

After a Sam Bean walk, the Green and Gold had two on base with one out when Valbak stepped to the plate. With an RBI single, Valbak scored Mitchell and advanced Bean to third.

Crocker then doubled down the left field line, scoring Bean, while Valbak was tagged out at home.

Brooke Burback then reached first on a hitting error, followed by a Jolie Readeaux double. But despite having runners on second and third, the Blazers weren't able to score them.

Conrad (2-1) finished the game with four hits, four runs and three strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Valbak, who pitched three innings of relief, ended the game with three hits, one run and one strikeout in the circle.

UAB won't have to wait long to face the Bulldogs again. The Blazers (8-6) and Georgia will face off again tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CST to open up the second day of the Bulldog Classic.
