Men’s Tennis Falls in Friday Showdown with Samford

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team fell to Samford, 4-2, in Friday's non-conference match at the UAB Campus Courts.
The Blazers (5-8, 0-2 C-USA) could not win the doubles point early, as Samford (9-6, 2-0 SoCon) won on all three dual courts. Court two saw Daniel Janko/Vojtech Podzemny fall to Tomas Sanantonio/Eladio Fabregas, 6-3, before Giovani Pasini/Thanos Spyropolous dropped their court three match to Rossouw Norval/M.A. Bellalouna, 6-3. On court one, Victor Chaw/Jim Hendrix overcame Roman Postolka/Michal Lusovsky, 6-4.
Samford went up 2-0 in the match with a court four singles win by retirement by Hendrix over Podzemny. The Bulldogs then claimed victory on court three as Fabregas bested Spyropulous, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 to put Samford up 3-0.
Michal Lusovsky cut into the Bulldog lead with a court two win over Chaw, 6-1, 7-5, before Postolka topped Norval on court one, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to bring the Blazers to within one at 3-2.
Samford clinched the match on court five with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Janko by Sanantonio.
UAB returns to the courts on Sunday as the Blazers head south to Montgomery to take on Alabama State (6-4, 4-0 SWAC).
